A pickup truck, which later was reported stolen, damaged a Hinesville home in a late-night accident Wednesday.

According to a report filed by Hinesville Police Traffic Accident Investigator Richard Boucher, the driver of the vehicle attempted to flee from Hinesville Police Department K-9 Handler Jerry Britting.

Britting observed the driver of the Ford F150 truck exit from Cherokee Circle onto West Oglethorpe Highway without his lights on.

Britting said he turned on his blue lights to initiate a traffic stop when the driver turned onto South Main Street from Kacey Drive.

The driver attempted several times to exit the vehicle as it was moving, the officer said. According to the report, the driver then left the road, striking a chain-link fence and hitting the rear of 154 Cherokee Circle shortly after 10:30 p.m.

A family who has not been identified was home at the time of the accident, but no one was injured.

The driver of the truck fled on foot. The police are on the lookout for the driver, who has not been identified or apprehended.

According to Boucher’s report, police did not find any drugs or alcohol in the
vehicle.
