A standoff between police and an armed man in Flemington ended Saturday evening with the suspect shot and wounded.
The man, Ryan Alexander Messer, was arrested after being treated and released from Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah. The charges filed against him have not been detailed.
Allegedly brandishing two handguns, Messer climbed onto the roof of his home on Woody Court, yelling at police officers who were trying to get him down safely.
Messer paced the roof, got down, entered his home and back on the roof several times during the nearly two-hour standoff.
Liberty County Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy Jon Long said Messer had gotten into a dispute with his girlfriend earlier. When officers arrived at about 3:30 p.m., they were able to get others from the home. Messer allegedly armed himself and barricaded himself inside the single-story home and eventually climbed onto the roof.
Once when Messer re-entered the home he retrieved a "military" rifle, according to Long, and pointed at a police officer who was trying to negotiate with him. Several snipers who had deployed around the home fired a volley of shots, striking the man in the arm and hand.
He was taken by ambulance to Liberty Regional Medical Center and then Memorial in Savannah.
