Woman's leg broken when pickup careens off wreck and hits her
wreck
Bystanders watch as the pickup is towed away.

A Hinesville woman, who was loading up items from a yard sale at the Hinesville American Legion Post Saturday, was injured when a small pickup careened off a wreck on Highway 84 and hit her.

Hinesville Police Department Traffic Accident Investigator Richard Boucher said a driver in a Chevy Sonic was turning off the highway to go to the sale about 11 a.m. A woman driving a Chevy Colorado pickup behind the Sonic apparently became distracted, swerved and sideswiped the Sonic. The pickup driver veered into a field where the 60-year-old victim had just placed items she bought at the sale into her vehicle and was stuck by the pickup truck, fracturing her right leg.

The victim, who was not identified, was flown by a medical helicopter to Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah.

The pickup driver, who also was not identified, was cited for failure to exercise due care, according to Boucher.
