Qualifying for a number of county, state and federal offices began Monday, and a number of candidates have already either made it official or announced their intention to run.
In Liberty County, incumbent Sheriff Steve Sikes will face a challenge from retired soldier and former Georgia State Patrol trooper William. Bowman, and County Commission Chairman Donald Lovette will face a challenge from Liberty County NAACP President Graylan Quarterman, who had not qualified but announced his intention to run Tuesday morning on social media.
Other Liberty County incumbents seeking another term are Probate Judge Nancy Aspinwall, Clerk of Courts Linda Thompson, Chief Magistrate Melinda Anderson, Coroner Reginald Pierce, District 4 commissioner Pat Bowen, District 5 Commissioner Gary Gilliard and District 6 Commissioner Eddie Walden.
On the Liberty County Board of Education, incumbents Verdell Jones, District 1, and Carol Guyette, District 3, have qualified to seek another term.
In Long County, qualifiers include incumbent District 1 Commissioner David Richardson; John Reddish, who will run for the District 2 seat being vacated by Mike Riddle; District 3 incumbent Mike Phillips. District 4 incumbent Clifton Deloach is facing a challenge from Jeremy Hall; and incumbent Robert Parker, District 5, is running again.
Long County Board of Education qualifiers include Bruce Deloach, District 2; Linda Sasser Deloach, incumbent in District 4; and District 5 incumbent Julie Norman Dawson, who is being challenged by Bryan Wingate.
In addition, C.Q. Bacon has qualified to run for Long County Coroner.
Qualifying ends Friday.
Early voting for Georgia’s March 24 presidential primary is also under way.
