Riceboro mayor unopposed; 7 qualify to run for council

Chris Stacy will be re-elected as mayor of Riceboro, after no opponent signed up to run against him.

Seven people have qualified to run for city council, including all four incumbents. Council members Pearlie R. Axson, Louise Brown, David Miller and John Young are running to retain their seats.

Timothy A. Akra, Rosemary Houston and Joseph Wynn also have qualified to run for city council.

Allenhurst Mayor James Willis also will be re-elected, as no one filed as an opponent in qualifying.

Three incumbent Allenhurst Town Council members qualified to run again — Eleanor J. Easton, William Harrell and Steve Welborn. Nicole Reed also qualified.

In Gum Branch, Tina Eason will not face any opposition to be mayor. Three incumbents — Brooke L. Horne, Charles Simpson and Corrina Simpson — all qualified to run again.

The last day to register to vote in the municipal elections is October 10. Early voting will take place from October 16-November 3, Monday-Friday, with two Saturday early voting dates of October 21 and October 28.

The general elections will be held November 7.
