Scarecrow stROLL to be held Oct. 30
2020 stroll

Tune up those rides and break out those costumes and crafting skills Hinesville, because the Scarecrow stROLL is driving through downtown Hinesville in 2020!

Complete with a costume contest for cars – areas residents can dress up their children and their vehicles before rolling through the 2020 Scarecrow stROLL in 2020. Make plans to join the Hinesville Downtown Development Authority (HDDA) for the premier 2020 Halloween event on Friday, October 30 from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. - the Scarecrow stROLL!

With COVID-19 disrupting in-person events for most of 2020, the decision was made to recalibrate this annual event in order to meet regulations and guidelines, while maintaining as much continuity as possible for this wonderful community event in 2020. The Scarecrow stROLL will be a drive-thru Halloween event that will begin with families/vehicles lining up at the Army Education Center (located at 100 Knowledge Drive, Fort Stewart GA 31314) beginning at 4:30 p.m.

PLEASE NOTE: an installation visitor’s pass is NOT required to access this parking lot. Once the event begins, a “pace car” from the Hinesville Police Department (HPD) will lead vehicles along the route. A map of this route will be posted to the City’s website and to the Facebook event no later than Friday, October 16.

Cars will follow the pace car out of the Army Education Center parking lot to drive down W. Memorial Drive, turning right on N. Main Street.

The procession will then turn around at Ameris Bank and return to the Memorial Drive traffic circle, where it will turn right and proceed down the remainder of E. Memorial Drive.

The route will end just before the traffic signal at E. Memorial Drive and Oglethorpe Highway so event goers can choose to turn left, right or continue straight at the signal.

HPD will be stationed along the route to assist with directing the caravan.

Event booths will be lined up along the route and participants will be handing candy to vehicle occupants as they pass by.

All participants will be required to wear a mask as they distribute treats to event goers. Keeping COVID-19 regulations and guidelines in mind, the Scarecrow stROLL will have a vehicle decorating contest in lieu of a 2020 costume contest.

Vehicles will be judged by an anonymous panel of judges as they roll through the parade line. Those wishing to enter their vehicle in the contest should register with the event staff member in the parking lot of the Army Education Center parking lot prior to rolling through the event route. Winners of the 2020 Vroom Vroom Broom Award will be contacted after the event.

The Scarecrow stROLL, sponsored by Weichert Realtors and McDonald’s of Hinesville, will take place on Friday, October 30 from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. in downtown Hinesville. To become a vendor or sponsor application, download the application at hinesvilledowntown.com.
