The school bell rang to start the 2026–27 year Tuesday morning, with more than 10,500 students finding their way through 14 of the Liberty County School System’s campuses.

The system is continuing its emphasis on attendance “Our theme this year is ‘Rise up, Show up and Level up,’” said Superintendent Debra Frazier. “We are promoting attendance all day, every day. We want our scholars to be present and accounted for every day so we can improve instruction.”

Frazier greeted students at Bradwell Institute on Tuesday morning and noted the clear backpack mandate was in effect.

“It is for security reasons, so we are grateful to our community and to our parents for coming through and supporting our new policy,” she said.

Open houses at each school were held Friday, and the system held its annual convocation, bringing in the faculty and staff across the district for a pep rally-style assembly, last Thursday. Students also are continuing to enroll as the school year begins, Frazier said.

“We’re excited,” she said. “We’re ready to go. We’re grateful for the community support, and we have had a lot of support.”

The last day for the 2026–27 school year is May 21, 2027.

First Preparatory Christian Academy held its open house Monday, and classes for the school year commenced Wednesday morning. Open house for Long County High School is today, and the first day of classes at LCHS is August 10. Open houses at Long County’s elementary schools and middle school is August 13, with a start date of classes set for August 17.
