Schools push back first day to Thursday
Health department to close at noon
Liberty BoE-Debby

The Liberty County School System (LCSS) announced that it will delay the first day of school until Thursday, August 8, due to the impending threat of Tropical Storm Debby. All Liberty County School System 12-month employees and critical workers should report to work on Monday, August 5.

Liberty County's board of commissioners has cancelled its meeting set for Tuesday. All agenda items originally set for that meeting will be postponed until the August 15 meeting, which begins at 5 p.m.

Due to the potential for severe weather associated with Tropical Storm Debby, all clinics and offices of the Coastal Health District will close at 12 noon on Monday, Aug. 5, and are expected to re-open at 8 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 8. This includes all health departments in Bryan, Camden, Chatham, Effingham, Glynn, Liberty, Long, and McIntosh Counties. Updates to these closures will be reported promptly.

Anyone with a clinic appointment previously scheduled during the closure will be contacted to reschedule.

The Coastal Health District urges residents to be prepared as Tropical Storm Debby approaches. They should:

·        Have a three-day supply of non-perishable foods.

·        Have one gallon of water per person per day.

·        Have a three-day supply of prescription medications.

·        Turn the refrigerator to the coldest setting.

·        Secure homes by covering doors and windows.

·        Charge phones and electronics.

Tropical Storm Debby is expected to bring significant rainfall with potential coastal flooding, storm surge, flash flooding, and rip currents. Flooding of coastal streets and roadways is also possible. Just six inches of moving water can knock a person down, and one foot of moving water can sweep a vehicle away. Everyone is urged to “Turn Around. Don’t Drown.” Learn more about flood safety at ready.gov/floods.
