The Liberty County School System is asking for community input on the next superintendent.
The Georgia School Boards Association has set up an online survey for residents to complete, asking questions about what the kind of background and emphasis they want to see in the next superintendent of Liberty County schools.
The school system has a link to the nine-question survey on its Facebook page.
The Georgia School Boards Association is conducting the search and took applications for the position through March 2. The school system, with an enrollment of nearly 11,000, has seven elementary schools, three middle schools, two high schools and a college and career academy.
More than 1,400 people are employed through the school system, as either certified or classified personnel. Certified personnel include teachers and administrators, and there more than 800 in the system.
Among the qualifications being sought in the next superintendent are either a doctorate in education or a Ph.D., or being eligible for a Georgia Leadership Certification. The school system also is looking for a “proven leader with a combination of documented professional expertise achieved through service in roles/ positions with progressively increased responsibility” and a familiarity with leadership, politics, finance and management of the K-12 education sector and the needs of diverse learners.
Board members retained GSBA to conduct the superintendent search after not renewing Dr. Franklin Perry’s contract in a split vote last fall. Dr. Perry’s contract ends this summer.
