The City of Hinesville Public Works / ESG Operations, Inc. reported a sewage spill of partially treated wastewater from the Ft. Stewart/Hinesville WPCP occurring between the hours of 7 a.m. to 7 a.m. on Thursday and Friday, March 5 and 6. The discharge totaled approximately 10.96 million gallons and was discharged from the WPCP Effluent and entered an unnamed tributary leading to Taylor Creek. The spill was due to 5.7” of precipitation that occurred on Wednesday and Thursday, March 4 and 5, which impacted the plant’s treatment capabilities. The spill has been stopped and the area has been cleaned and limed. Additionally, the Environmental Protection Division (EPD) and Health Department have been notified.
