Simmons finishes Navy boot camp

Christion Simmons recently graduated U.S. Navy basic training in Great Lakes, Ill.

Christion Simmons graduated May 6 from U.S. Navy basic training in Great Lakes, Ill.

Simmons began at Bradwell Institute and finished school at Fort Stewart Youth Challenge, then moved to Job Challenge, where he got his certification in culinary arts.

Simmons then went to Job Corps in Brunswick, where he was certified in clerical nursing and EKG before enlisting in the Navy. 

His mother, Tianela Sherwood, said “I am beyond proud of him.”

Other relatives include Simmons’ grandfather, Donald Tillis Sr., grandmother Verbertha Tillis, Aunt Alicia Simmons and Grandmother Janice Simmons. 

In addition, Sherwood gave “special thanks to his Uncle Donald Tillis Jr and his sisters and brothers.”

Having proposed a bill to acquire and rename Greenland, U.S. House Rep. Buddy Carter is dismissing the flak he’s taking for the measure. Carter, who represents Georgia’s 1st District in the U.S. House, has introduced into the House a resolution giving President Trump authority to purchase Greenland from Denmark and to rename it “Red, White and Blue Land."
