The Fort Stewart soldier who was involved in a traffic accident yesterday is now in stable condition at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah.
Cpl. Dwayne Moonsammy, 33, was struck by a South Carolina man driving a Toyota 4-runner at around 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, at the intersection of highway 84 and 196.
According to a report filed by the Hinesville Georgia State Patrol, when the driver of the 4runner attempted to make a left turn, Moonsammy, who was on his bike, behind the vehicle, slammed into the vehicle’s driver side.
At which time, Moonsammy was ejected from the bike.
The collision sent his motorcycle 95 feet from the point of impact. According to officials from the 3rd Infantry Division, Moonsammy was taken from the scene to Winn Army Community Hospital and was transported around 4:30 p.m. to Memorial Health.Moonsammy is a member of the division's Headquarters Company, Special Troops Battalion.
The accident occured one day after soldiers at Fort Stewart were given the day off for going 100 days without having any soldier-related incidents.
