The Long County Blue Tide Super Smash Bros. Ultimate teams are well into the 2024 season. After a bye last week, the teams were back in action on Wednesday, October 23. Splash Smash played Heritage while Tsunmai Tsmash faced off against North Oconee.

Splash Smash looked to continue their winning streak after winning two games on October 9 and earning another win from their bye week.

Kody Heredia was up first as he took on a Sephiroth main with his Fox. He lost both games in the set, but the first game was a close one.

Heredia took a 2-1 lead while taking just 38 damage on his second life. It looked like he would take an early lead in the set, but he dropped both of his last two stocks to lose 1-0.

He fell behind 2-1 in the second game of the set but tied the score 1-1 with zero damage taken. He dealt 131 damage but lost the game 1-0 and the set 2-0. Heritage took a 1-0 match lead.

Patrick McClennon was up next and used Mario against Ganondorf. He took an early 3-1 lead while taking 124 damage on his first stock.

He dealt out 57 damage on the final stock before losing his first. He won the first game 2-0. His opponent switched to Ike in the second game and McClennon once again took a 3-1 lead with 111 damage on his first stock.

He went on to win the second game 2-0 and win the set 2-0. He tied the match at 1-1.

Benjamin Stokes used Steve in the first game of the next set, but went down 3-2 early against a Pikachu. He took the next two stocks while taking just 72 damage, but led 2-1.

Stokes won the first game 1-0 while his opponent switched to King K. Rool in the second game. Again, Stokes fell behind 3-2, but took the next three stocks off his opponent to win the game 2-0 and the set 2-0.

With a 2-1 match lead, McClennon was up against Stokes’ opponent from the third set. He used Mario against Pirahna Plant and won the game 1-0 and then beat Palutena 2-0 in the second game to win the set 2-0 and match 3-1.

Tsunami did not have as much luck as they dropped their second straight match. Owen Stone used Sonic in the first set to take on Sora. He dropped both games 1-0, but they were both pretty close matchups.

Jason Gaye was up next and using R.O.B. in the first game against Mythra/Pyra, he lost 2-0. He switched to Little Mac in the second game and was back on track as he won 1-0 to even the set 1-1.

Gaye won the final game of the set 1-0 to tie the match at 1-1.

Jaiden Jones was up next against a Donkey Kong user, but the game was never really close. Jones lost both game 3-0 while dealing out 81 damage total over two games.

Gaye took on Jones’ opponent in the fourth set and dropped the first game 3-0 while using R.O.B. and then lost to Kazuya with Little Mac 2-0 in the second game.

With the win, Splash Smash is now 4-1 and ranked number 7 in the state. Tsunami Tsmash is 2-3 and ranked just outside of the top 64. Both teams were back in action Wednesday, October 30 and will look to win to stay in contention for the state playoffs.
