ATLANTA – Judge Jay Stewart of the Atlantic Judicial Circuit Superior Court has been elected secretary-treasurer of the Council of Superior Court Judges of Georgia.
His term, along with those of Council President Judge Dustin Hightower (West Georgia Judicial Circuit), and President- Elect Judge Paige Reese Whitaker (Atlanta Judicial Circuit), runs through April 30, 2027.
Judge Stewart was elected Superior Court Judge of the Atlantic Judicial Circuit on November 7, 2006. After graduating from Pinewood Christian Academy in 1981, Judge Stewart attended Georgia Southern College (now University), obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Adult Education in 1986. He received his Juris Doctor from Mercer Law School in May 1991 and was admitted to the State Bar of Georgia in May of 1991.
After graduating from law school, Judge Stewart entered the private practice of law, where he maintained a general practice. From 2001 through 2006, Judge Stewart was a partner in the law firm of Brown, Rountree & Stewart in Statesboro. Since January 1, 2007, Judge Stewart has served as a Superior Court Judge of the Atlantic Judicial Circuit, which is comprised of Evans, Tattnall, Bryan, Long, Liberty and McIntosh counties.
Judge Stewart is a graduate of the National Judicial College in Reno, Nevada. He is a member of the State Bar of Georgia, member and past president of the Atlantic Judicial Circuit Bar Association, and a member of the Council of Superior Court Judges. Judge Stewart served on the Board of Governors at Pinewood Christian Academy from 1992 until 2005.
From 2023 to 2025, Judge Stewart served as the Administrative Judge of the First Judicial Administrative District, where he represented the interests of Superior Court Judges throughout the 22-county district.
