The arraignment hearing was brief as attorneys for the defense and prosecutors discussed upcoNathan Weekes and Christopher Sumlin, both accused in the January 2021 slaying of Bobby Kicklighter of Glennville, were arraigned Tuesday morning in the Tattnall County Justice Center in Reidsville.

Weekes and Sumlin are facing the death penalty in the killing of 88-year-old Kicklighter in a case of mistaken identity. Sumlin is alleged to have broken into Kicklighter’s house on the morning of January 30, 2021 and then shooting the elderly man to death.  Prosecutors allege Sumlin was to kill a corrections officer, who once lived on the same street as Kicklighter, who was attempting to halt contraband from entering Smith State Prison.  Weekes is alleged to have ordered the killing of the corrections officer while he was incarcerated.

There was a heavy law enforcement presence as Weekes was brought into the courthouse. He is currently being housed at the Special Management Unit at Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison in Jackson.
