Suspect wanted for murder in N.C. arrested in Liberty County

A suspect wanted in connection with a murder in Spring Lake, NC was arrested In Walthourville shortly after noon Monday.

 

According to Liberty County Sheriff’s Office Detectives, Tracy Jennings the suspect identified as Chris Gibson was arrested coming out of a residence on E.B. Cooper Highway by members of the Sheriff’s office and the Georgia State Patrol without incident.  According to a press release from the Spring Lake Police Department stated, on Tuesday Aug. 17, at about 3:54 p.m. Cumberland County Dispatch (911) received a telephone call requesting Emergency Medical Services (EMS) for a subject lying on the ground in the 1400 Block of Verlie Ave. Spring Lake Police Officers were also dispatched and upon arriving on scene discovered a male subject unresponsive.  The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS. The victim has been identified as Clarence Edward Tatum. On Aug. 19, Detectives obtained a warrant against Chris Dontea Gibson for First-Degree Murder relating to the death of Clarence Tatum. On Monday Gibson was located and apprehended in Liberty County.
