Liberty Regional Medical Center and the Liberty County Hospital Authority honored James Thomas Jr. on May 22 for his 15 years as a member of the authority.

“He has been an integral part of strategic planning for the hospital from a board perspective, taking an active role in board committees and working closely with the hospital’s administration and physicians,” said Rene Harwell with Liberty Regional. “Mr. Thomas has been a strong advocate and supporter of the hospital during his tenure. His guidance, vision and direction have strengthened the bond between the community and the organization as a whole.”

She said Thomas is a respected public figure who followed legislative issues concerning the community and healthcare.

“He would often visit with representatives and senators while in session to discuss issues having a significant and direct impact on the local hospital and to lobby for actions to improve access to healthcare for the citizens of the community,” Harwell said.

Thomas, a veteran, is a former mayor of Hinesville. The authority oversees operation of the hospital and its affiliates.
