The Long County Blue Tide Super Smash Bros Ultimate teams are getting hot at the right time. Both varsity squads, Splash Smash and Tsunami Tsmash, stayed undefeated on the season with victories on Wednesday, October 7.
Splash Smash took on the Calhoun Yellow Jackets and were dominant from the start. Deron Cummings took a 1-0 victory over a Chrom user with his Kirby.
His opponent switched to Yoshi for the second game and Cummings dropped the second game. He switched to King Dedede for the third game and won 2-0 to win the set 2-1.
Both Marcus Walker and Owen Stone went on to 2-0 set victories with Walker staying undefeated with his R.O.B. main, bringing him to 6-0 on the season.
Stone finally got a much-needed moral victory as he took the win using Meta Knight and Inkling. Splash Smash moved to 3-0 with the 3-0 win over the Jackets.
Tsunami Tsmash took on the KIPP Atlanta Warriors and were just as dominant. Jason Gaye took a 2-1 victory after falling behind in the first set before switching to Min Min, with whom he is still undefeated on the year.
Divine Nunnery and Zy’mir Howell both took big 2-0 wins in their sets with Howell showing off his skills for a third week. The sophomore is 12-0 - 8-0 with King K. Rool and 4-0 with Donkey Kong - and has five three-stock victories, in which he did not lose a life in the game.
The Tide’s junior varsity team, the Wave Warriors, took on the Monroe Area Hurricanes and went to a fifth set.
Louby Richard took on a King K. Rool in his first set and he dropped the set 2-1, losing the first game with Lucas, winning the second with Bowser Jr before switching back to Lucas for the third game and falling.
Savage Vanburen lost his set 2-0 using Bowser before Keygan Burke made his season debut. He won his first set 2-0 using Kirby and won the fourth set 2-1 to force a fifth set.
That last set went down to the wire with Richard falling to Yoshi in the final two games after winning the first.
The Wave Warriors fall to 1-2 on the season with the loss and all three teams will be back in action on Wednesday, October 14.
