Tourism promotion panel forming

An intergovernmental agreement among Hinesville, Flemington and Liberty County has been reached to create and maintain a non-profit organization to promote tourism, trade shows and conventions. The organization will be funded by a five percent hotel/motel tax revenue, which was previously allocated to the Liberty County Development Authority.
“The first three percent can be used by the local governments for general funding, and the other two percent needs to go to tourism, conventions and trade shows,” City Manager Billy Edwards said. “The purpose of this funding, though, will go to the eventual formulation of this non-profit organization, but we are all still just in the planning stages.”
