Tri-city effort shines in KLB’s Great American Cleanup effort
Flemington Mayor Paul Hawkins and city council members Larry Logan, David Edwards, Rene Harwell, Gail Fox, Leigh Smiley and Hasit Patel receive their trophy for the Great American Cleanup from KLB executive director Dr. Karen Bell.

Keep Liberty Beautiful announces the success of the first Tri-City Great American Cleanup 2025, a collaborative effort between the cities of Walthourville, Flemington, and Allenhurst. This partnership marks a step toward strengthening community pride, beautifying shared spaces, and promoting environmental stewardship across Liberty County.

The City of Walthourville was honored as the first recipient of the Tri-City Cleanup Trophy during a recent city council meeting, recognizing its outstanding participation and leadership. This week, the celebration continued as the City of Flemington was presented with the trophy in recognition of its strong community turnout and dedication to maintaining a clean environment. The City of Allenhurst will receive the traveling trophy early next quarter.

In addition to the trophy presentations, all three cities were awarded certificates of appreciation for their partnership, commitment to community engagement, and cooperative effort in hosting successful cleanup events that brought neighbors, volunteers, and local leaders together with a shared goal, creating a cleaner, more beautiful region.

“This Tri-City effort shows what can happen when mayors and communities come together with a common purpose,” said Dr. Karen Bell, the executive director of Keep Liberty Beautiful. “These cities set an example of unity and environmental responsibility, and we look forward to continuing to support and expand partnerships like this across Liberty County.”

The Great American Cleanup is part of a national initiative that inspires individuals and groups to improve public spaces, reduce litter, and build sustainable, litter-free communities. Keep Liberty Beautiful extends its deepest gratitude to all volunteers and partner organizations who helped make this collaborative effort a success.
