A tractor trailer driver traveling south Friday night on I-95 died when the cab of his vehicle caught fire.
According to Georgia State Patrol Trooper Christopher Ashdown, the driver was near mile marker 79 when his truck hit a guard rail and possibly ruptured a side fuel tank which caused the vehicle to burst into flames.
Ashdown said when the fire was extinguished remains were discovered.
Liberty County Fire Services Chief Brian Darby said when his firefighters arrived on scene shortly after 11:30 p.m. the cab of the vehicle was fully engulfed in flames and the fire quickly spread to the trailer which was hauling bottles of beer.
Darby said firefighters were able to bring the fire under control quickly. The two left lanes of the interstate had to be closed while firefighters battled the blaze.
Ashdown said further information will be released once the victim is identified and next of kin is notified.
