Two council incumbents qualify, another to run for mayor

Two Hinesville City Council incumbents have qualified to run for their seats again as of 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Another council member has decided to run for mayor, as District 5 council member Karl Riles has filed his paperwork to run.

District 2’s Jason Floyd and District 3’s Vicky Nelson have qualified to run again for their posts. Diana Reid of District 1 has said she intends to run again.

Reid and Nelson will face opposition for their seats. Alan Anthony White has qualified to run in District 1, and Arthur Nixon will run in District 3.

Two people — Eric Hollis and Joel Nicholson Jr. — have qualified to run for District 5.

Qualifying will run through Friday at 4:30 p.m.

Early voting will be held October 16-November 3, Monday-Friday, from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. each day at the Historic Liberty County Courthouse. In-person voting will be conducted November 7 from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. at the Charles Shuman Recreation Center. Qualifying fees are $720 for mayor and $360 for a council member seat.

First Preparatory Christian Academy celebrated 50 years as a school and honored its longtime faculty and staff. What started as a preschool, kindergarten and elementary school added middle and high school grades in 2006. That year, school leaders also broke ground on the main building on Court Street, adjacent to the church. The first senior class graduated in 2009.
