Two injured in accident involving two school buses
smashed truck

A wrong way driver traveling on Airport Road early Friday morning hit two Liberty County school System buses.

The buses did not contain children

According to Georgia State Patrol Sgt. First Class David Laff the driver of a utility truck was driving in the wrong lane heading in the direction of E.G. Miles Parkway while the buses were heading back to the bus barn on Airport Road traveling in the direction of High 84 around 8:25 am.

Laff said the driver of the utility truck sideswiped one bus and continued on hitting the second bus head on. The utility vehicle burst into flames causing burns to the driver's torso and head area.  Hinesville Fire Departments Station 22, which is located up the road from the accident, responded within a few minutes putting out the fire and removing the driver.

The driver of the utility truck was airlifted to the Joesph M. Stills burn center in Augusta where his condition is unknown.
The driver of the bus which had been hit head on was transported to a local area hospital according to GSP Cpl. Keith Kerrick who is heading the investigation.
