Two teens are facing numerous charges after being accused of a stealing a vehicle from a Hinesville dealership.
According to Liberty County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Lt. Phillip Bohannon and Hinesville Police Department Assistant Chief Terronova Smith, a Dodge Durango was reported missing from Liberty Chrysler’s lot in Hinesville when employees reporting for work noticed the business had been broken into. When law enforcement officers arrived, they began looking at security footage and discovered a vehicle was driven off the lot shortly after 5 a.m. Tuesday.
Authorities believe the teens found a key for the vehicle.
A BOLO, or be on the lookout, was placed on the vehicle and according to Bohannon, a Liberty County deputy spotted it on Airport Road and 15th Street around 7:30 a.m. and began to chase it when the driver refused to stop.
The deputy called off the chase near E.G. Miles Parkway and Pineland Avenue due to heavy traffic.
Smith said the vehicle was later spotted on Pineland Avenue and Hinesville police officers began canvassing the area in search of it.
At around 7:38 a.m. the stolen vehicle was located at the Parkers on McLarry’s Curve on East Oglethorpe Highway and the teen suspect was in the store. When officers arrived, they apprehended a 14-year-old. A 15-year-old suspect was later apprehended, according to Smith. Smith was unsure who the driver of the vehicle was.
Both are facing burglary and theft charges and were taken to a local Youth Detention Center.
Smith said there was damage to the vehicle but could not comment if it had occurred while in the teen’s possession.
