United Way begins rapid response disaster fund
UNited way

United Way of the Coastal Empire has activated the Rapid Response Disaster Fund across Bryan, Chatham, Effingham, Liberty, and Long counties. These funds will provide critical response and recovery support to residents impacted by emergencies and disasters across the region.

In the wake of Hurricane Helene, residents across the five-county region are facing severe challenges from widespread storm damage. Many homes have been damaged, and families will require both intermediate and long-term support. Communities are in urgent need as they begin the recovery process.

United Way of the Coastal Empire activated the Rapid Response Disaster Relief Fund in partnership with County Emergency Management Agencies across the region. United Way’s role in this partnership is to spearhead fundraising efforts for disaster response and recovery.

United Way will remain in close contact with all its county partners to ensure coordinated efforts. Funds will be allocated across the community for short-term relief and long-term recovery efforts as determined necessary by the County Emergency Management Agencies, based on damage and needs assessments.

“At United Way of the Coastal Empire, we recognize the devastating impact Hurricane Helene has had on families and households throughout our region," said Kimberly Waller, United Way of the Coastal Empire president and CEO. "We are committed to mobilizing the caring power of our community to support those affected by the storm. Through this effort, we will raise funds to address the intermediate needs of our neighbors and assist in the long-term recovery of the communities hardest hit."
