Long County Sheriff Craig Nobles said his department received an update from CSX regarding the previously scheduled railroad track maintenance, and road closures within Ludowici.

"CSX will not close all three (3) railroad crossings in Ludowici simultaneously, as had been previously announced," Nobles said.

There will be some preparatory roadwork ongoing Monday, Sept. 23rd, that should not necessitate any road closures. The new start date for traffic detouring due to track maintenance is Tuesday, Sept. 24.

The crossing that will be left open has not been selected yet, but the South Railroad Street crossing will be closed. Either the Macon Street or McDonald Street crossing will remain open for detouring and traffic.

Once the detour road is selected, the Sheriff's Office will post that information right away.

Begin to plan for additional travel time, especially during the AM and PM vehicle congestion associated with school traffic on Tuesday, September 24.
