Those in need of help during this difficult time found it Saturday morning in Hinesville at House of Refuge church on Welborn Street, where Another Chance Outreach Ministries (ACOM) set up their giveaway event. ACOM gave away clothing, food and even free haircuts.
This was ACOM’s first giveaway in two years, after being forced to pause their assistance to the community due to the ongoing pandemic. They plan to host another giveaway in six months and every six months thereafter.
Irving White, CEO of Another Chance Outreach Ministries, said they just want to be a blessing to the community.
“We are all in a rough time right now,” he said. “Our thing is to give away tangible resources in order to help meet the needs of individuals in the city of Hinesville, families in need as well as the homeless community.”
He said there are many homeless people, both accounted and unaccounted for, who they feed every week. He said ACOM expanded their service because a lot of people are in need since the pandemic began in 2020.
White said the barbers at the event were all licensed who volunteered their time and services.
“I am ecstatic, I am grateful, and it humbles me because of the fact they are able to do this,” he said.
White said they submitted grants to Walmart, the city and the county and were fortunate to receive the funds, which he called a community and civic way to give back to those in need.
