Liberty County Elections Supervisor Ronda Walthour said things ran pretty smoothly during early voting and Election Day May 24. She said there were some folks who didn’t realize their polling locations had changed, but for the most part, voters’ questions were answered, people were told where their new polling places were, and a steady stream of voters showed up. She said they conducted early tabulation of the absentee ballots as soon as they were allowed to do so.
She added that they are going to need more poll workers for the November election. Anyone wanting to volunteer should contact her office at 912.876.3310.
Election board member McKesson Stafford Sr. said he saw many people ready to cast their votes at the Liberty County Community Complex in Midway and the Walthourville polling location.
“They are coming out and doing their civic duties and making sure their votes count and making changes in their life,” he said. Stafford said he saw a lot of new, excited voters this election cycle, adding that most people were in and out within five to 10 minutes.
County resident Jerri Mixon said it took her less than five minutes to cast her ballot.
