Volunteers needed to help troops

Donations in cash and kind have flowed into the Hinesville Military Affairs Committee for the Soldier/Family Appreciation Days next week to the point the group has cut its requests to three: volunteers, volunteers, volunteers.
Melinda Schneider - email her at yellowbowlady@coastalnow.net - is coordinating volunteers who are needed to help prepare, transport or serve the more than 10,000 meals that have been pledged for the July 3-4 event.
Activities begin with bowling, water slides and a kids' carnival at Walker Field free to soldiers and their families.
A golf scramble at Fort Stewart's Taylors Creek Golf Club starts events on July 4, which really begin to heat up at noon when the Silver Wings parachute team drops in with the U.S. flag. At that time a 50-gun salute will be fired in honor of the 50 states in the union. Food, music, entertainment and other activities will then follow until 10 p.m. when the fireworks start in the center of Donovan Field.
Sign up to volunteer by calling the Schneiders at 884-5599, or 912-271-1702 for Melinda, or 912-271-1701 for P.J. Schneider.
Many patriotic and civic groups throughout the area are recruiting volunteers for their own soldier/family appreciation portions of the event.
And money and in-kind donations can still add to the event for  Fort Stewart's families.
