The Walthourville Fire Department responded Friday morning to a house fire on the 100 block of Kings Road in Walthourville where it was reported one person was trapped and another refused to exit the residence.

According Walthourville Fire Chief Nick Maxwell, fire units were dispatched to the home shortly before 10 a.m. in regards to a residential structure fire with reports of a trapped victim and one other occupant refusing to leave the residence. When fire units arrived on scene, they rescued one trapped occupant through a side window while extinguishing the fire located in the kitchen.

Both residents were transported to Liberty Regional Medical Center.

The home, according to Maxwell, sustained extensive smoke damage, however the residents will be able to remain in the home.

“It is still livable and the residents will not be displaced,” he said.
