Multi Agency Crack Enforcement Drug Task Force (MACE) agents apprehended a man who is wanted in Maryland in connection with an attempted murder.
Responding to several complaints of drug-related activity, MACE agents were patrolling an area known as Mission Ridge in Hinesville when they spotted a person of interest.
Agents made initial contact with the man who originally provided a false name. Probing further, the agents were able to obtain the man's real name, Marques Tyrel Davis, 20.
As a result of a background check, it was determined there was a warrant for Davis in Prince George’s County, Md. on a charge of first-degree, attempted murder.
He was arrested and taken to Liberty County Jail.
Davis is believed to have been staying at an apartment at 802 Frank Cochran Dr. in Hinesville. The lease is in his mother's name. She is currently deployed to Iraq.
MACE agents obtained a search warrant for the apartment and reportedly found a sawed-off rifle and prepackaged bags of marijuana in an upstairs room with a padlocked door.
Drug residue, drug paraphernalia and packaging items were also found in the apartment.
According to authorities, Davis previously faced weapons and assault charges, but they were dismissed in October 2005.
He is believed to have arrived in the Hinesville area after a warrant was issued in September 2006 in connection with the attempted murder charge.
A birth certificate found at the scene indicates Davis is originally from Okaloosa, Fla. An extradition hearing had been scheduled for Tuesday.
Davis’ arrest was just one in a series throughout the weekend for MACE agents who were working on tips about drug activity.
