Wasdin plane crash
Emergency crews respond to the report of a downed plane in Wayne County. The pilot has been identified as chiropractor and former Navy SEAL Howard Wasdin.

A former Navy SEAL who became a chiropractor in Jesup was killed in a plane crash Thursday morning.
At about 9:03 a.m., Wayne County emergency responders answered a dispatch to a report of a missing aircraft. The missing aircraft's last known area was around Manningtown area.
At 9:36 am the plane was located approximately a quarter mile from the William A. Zorn Airport. Initial reports are that the plane, a small private aircraft, was carrying the pilot and his canine companion.

The pilot has been identified as Dr. Howard Wasdin. Dr. Wasdin was a highly decorated Navy SEAL and an author, having written the book “SEAL Team Six: Memoirs of an Elite Navy SEAL Sniper.”

Wayne County EMA Director Donnie Ray said he thinks the situation itself is probably the most difficult part, dealing with the potential impact that this has on family and the community at large.

“Our crews are working very hard, very diligently, all the agencies are working really well together,” he said.

The crash site and surrounding area have been secured and will be maintained until investigators from the FAA arrive.

Ray and Wayne County Sheriff Chuck Moseley expressed their thanks to the following agencies for assisting with locating the plane: Wayne County Sheriff’s Office deputies, detectives, coroner, E-911 communication officers, Department of Natural Resources, Georgia State Patrol, Georgia Emergency Management Agency, Jesup Fire Department, Brantley County EMA and Sheriff Department, Golden Isle Ambulance Service, County Administrator Amanda Hannah and Airport Manager Mitch Sutton.
