Weapons totaling $38,500 stolen from Shooting Preserve

The Liberty County Sheriff's Office is asking the community for assistance in finding the thief or thieves that stole weapons valued at approximately $38,500 from the Dorchester Shooting Preserve in Midway on Nov. 16.


According to the Liberty County Sheriff's Office, deputies were dispatched to the Dorchester Shooting Preserve, 2641 Sunbury Road in Midway the morning of Nov. 17 in reference to a reported burglary. Deputies were told that a person or persons unknown had entered the establishment and made off with an undetermined amount of firearms. Deputies requested the assistance of the Detective’s Office and the investigation was turned over to them.


Detectives have been working with representatives from Dorchester Shooting Preserve, collecting evidence and information. It appears that approximately 19 weapons were taken.

The LCSO has requested assistance from The Department of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and Explosives (ATFE) who will be working this investigation along with local authorities.


Video footage of the incident at that location was obtained and at this time LCSO is releasing that to the public. They are asking that anyone who recognizes this person depicted or has information about the crime or the stolen items, to contact Liberty County Sheriff’s Office, or ATFE.

Motorcyclist dies following Friday evening collision

A Long County motorcyclist was killed Friday night after colliding with another vehicle.
According to Hinesville Police Department Traffic Accident Investigator Michael Rameriz, the motorcyclist was traveling west bound on West Oglethorpe Highway shortly before 6 p.m. when a GMC Yukon was making a left turn from Mattie Street onto West Oglethorpe.
The motorcyclist struck the Yukon. Medical first responders were in the process of airlifting the motorcyclist when she succumbed to her injuries.
Rameriz said the accident is currently under investigation and declined to comment whether charges are pending.
