Hinesville fire fighters and other first responders prepare a woman wounded in an apparent shooting Tuesday for transport to a hospital.

Hinesville police officers are questioning a person of interest in a fatal shooting incident Tuesday night.

Officers responded to a report of shots fired in the area of Strickland Road and E.G. Miles Parkway and discovered a woman inside a vehicle suffering from what appeared to be a gunshot wound, according to Hinesville Police Chief Tracey Howard. The victim, who was found in the driver’s seat, apparently was shot in the back. The victim has been identified as Lakretia Clancy, who was 27.

Clancy later was flown to Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah. She died during surgery, Chief Howard said.

Another passenger in the vehicle was not harmed.

The incident occurred shortly before 9 p.m. and is being investigated as a homicide.
