A Liberty County native has been identified as the victim of a fatal accident Monday morning in Fulton County.

According to reports, Melody Coburn, 43, was killed when she was struck by another car early Monday as her own disabled vehicle was being loaded onto a tow truck.

Coburn, a Jonesboro resident according to her social media, was a Bradwell Institute graduate who later attended Savannah State University.

The driver of the vehicle that struck Coburn also was injured and taken to a local hospital. The incident took place on Interstate 20 across the Chattahoochee River, close to the Cobb-Fulton line.

South Fulton Police Department spokesman Lt. Jubal Rogers, who is also a Liberty County native, said the agency is not in a position to discuss potential charges or further details about the other driver’s condition, due to the ongoing nature of the investigation.

“As a department with close ties to Liberty County, including myself being a native, we share in the community's grief over Melody's untimely passing,” Lt. Rogers said. “Our thoughts are with her family and friends during this difficult time. Rest assured, we are committed to conducting a thorough and comprehensive investigation into this incident.”
