A Savannah man was killed as a result of an early morning wreck Thursday on I-95 in Liberty County when his car was struck by a tractor trailer.
Joseph Leon Kerr, 62, was traveling south on 95 and had to pull off the interstate south of Exit 76 in Midway when he began to have vehicle trouble, according to Georgia State Patrol Trooper David Laff.
Laff said Kerr pulled his 2002 Toyota Corolla onto the grassy shoulder asphalt around 6:55 a.m. While sitting in his vehicle waiting for a tow truck to come recover his vehicle a tractor trailer driver, who has not been identified, decided to take a 30 minute break from driving and began to pull onto the shoulder of the interstate, Laff said.
As he was pulling over the front passenger side of his rig struck Kerr’s car, the said. Kerr was taken to Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah where he later died.
The Georgia State Patrol Specialized Reconstruction Team was called out to investigate the accident and according to Laff charges may be pending against the driver.
