The child who drowned in a family pool has been identified by Long County authorities as Luke Aaron Paton.

A 4-year-old Long County boy found in a family pool has died, authorities said.

Ludowici/Long County Deputy Fire Chief Shawn Smith the child was pronounced dead at Liberty Regional Medical Center in Hinesville shortly after 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Smith said he received a call of an unresponsive child on Monticello Drive shortly before 7:30 p.m. When first responders arrived, they found a family member performing CPR on the child.

EMS took over and immediately transported the child to the hospital. Smith said the boy was discovered by a family member on the bottom of a pool on his father’s property.

Long County Sheriff's Office Lt. Jeff Dawson said deputies also responded to the that around 7:30 p.m. call.

Sheriff Craig Nobles said the child was in his father’s custody when the drowning occurred. Nobles said the boy will be taken Wednesday to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab, where an autopsy will be conducted.
