Fall Equine Assisted Therapy Clinic helps heal military, first responders
Letter to the Editor generic

Dear editor:

Second Chances Equine Rescue has been in operation since August 2013 in Hinesville. We have successfully helped 200 equines with assistance, rehoming, rescue, or sanctuary since we opened our gate. Over the past six years we have personally witnessed the transformation that occurs when a damaged equine meets an individual that may also need healing. Our program, War Horse at Second Chances, was created to serve this need in a greater capacity.

War Horse at Second Chances is proud to announce our Fall Equine Assisted Therapy Clinic October 25 – 27, 2019. This three-day event will host 10 zero cost participants from the military and first responder communities to address symptoms stemming from anxiety, depression, and PTSD. Dr. Michael-Renee Godfrey (PsyD, RN, LPC, BC-TMH, CPCS) of Perfect Peace Counseling Center and Purple Ponies Equine Therapy in Marietta, GA will be our visiting Clinician.

Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) incorporates horses experientially and are used as tools for mental and behavioral health therapy as well as personal growth. Because it is experiential in nature, each person who goes through the program takes away something different.

Why horses? While they are large and sometimes intimidating creatures, they are inherently honest and offer a pure, nonjudgmental relationship. Their feedback is immediate and accurate. They offer the participant a mirror into themselves and the opportunity to reflect, learn and grow through the interaction. Horses are forgiving and accept you for who you are regardless of your background.

We are currently accepting applications for participants as well as seeking support from the local community.
