Keep Liberty Beautiful

I really enjoyed my grandson Bryce’s visit to Liberty County. He was able to stay a little over two weeks, and he had several opportunities to volunteer (Voluntold) while he was here. He has put together 25 “No Butts About It!”

Committee backpacks.

These backpacks will be used to help collect cigarette butts from hotels and food locations. He participated in two road and park cleanups and put KLB stickers on 150 new litter reachers that Keep America Beautiful donated. Bryce made Adopt Liberty cleanup kits. He is such a great trooper, too.

He had no problem going through the large green trash cans for ink cartridges that we keep out of the landfill by recycling them.

We are getting shredded stuff ready at my house and going through our clothes, toys, and old electronics for the upcoming Recycle It! Fairs.

The fairs are scheduled for Saturday, August 17. Keep Liberty Beautiful provides quarterly Recycle It! Fairs for collecting numerous household items that cannot be dropped off at local recycling drop-off centers. At the last KLB Advisory Board meeting, we reviewed the partnerships for the recycling fairs.

KLB works with the community partners Liberty County Road Department, Liberty County Solid Waste, the Liberty County Sheriff Department, Fort Stewart Recycling, Savannah Shredding Company, and the cities of Midway, Hinesville, and Walthourville. This quarter’s fairs will take place on August 17 from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at two convenient locations:

Liberty County Community Complex 9397 East Oglethorpe in Midway

Walthourville City

Hall

222 Busbee Drive in Walthourville Here are the items we recycle at the fairs:

• Electronics and electronic accessories

• Cell phones and accessories

• CFLs and fluorescent light bulbs

• Used motor oil and antifreeze

• Car batteries.

• Household batteries

• Printer ink and toner cartridges

• Telephone books, large sale catalogs, and books

• Household goods and clothes and shoes (gently used, please)

• Old prescription medications and over-thecounter medications (no

On Saturday, August 17, KLB and Oceana are hosting a free showing of the movie “We’re All Plastic People Now” at the Liberty County Community Complex from 10 a.m. to 12 noon; refreshments will be served!

There is a Recycle It!

Fair schedule in Hinesville on October 26, at Bradwell Park from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. during Rivers Alive.

KLB is also sponsoring the August Chamber Progress Through People Luncheon at noon on Thursday, August 15.

This event is held at the Performing Arts Center on East Oglethorpe Highway. Registration is arranged through the Liberty County Chamber of Commerce by August 12 at operations@libertycounty. org or (912) 368-4445. Join us on Saturday, August 24 to conduct the Great Georgia Pollinator Census from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at the KLB office in Midway. Please RSVP at https://bit.ly/pollencensus to ensure we have enough supplies and food.

Family time is always a great way to make memories. I love that my grandson Bryce doesn’t mind hanging out with his Nana, has a big heart, and likes volunteering. I hope to see you at one of KLB’s upcoming events.

Who knows, you may see Bryce there helping out.
