Come One, Come All, it’s time to recycle! This Saturday, August 17, is KLB’s quarterly Recycle It! Fairs for collecting numerous household items that cannot be dropped off at local recycling drop-off centers. For the first time, we will have separate collection boxes for Vtech learning games, Febreze containers, and Gillette razors.

The quarter’s fairs will be open this Saturday from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at two convenient locations: Liberty County Community Complex 9397 East Oglethorpe in Midway and Walthourville City Hall 222 Busbee Drive in Walthourville

The Hinesville location Recycle It! Fair is scheduled for Saturday, October 26, at Bradwell Park, S Commerce Street, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon during Rivers Alive Cleanup.

Here are the items we recycle at the fairs:

• Electronics and electronic accessories

• Cell phones and accessories

• CFLs and fluorescent light bulbs

• Used motor oil and antifreeze

• Car batteries.

• Household batteries

• Printer ink and toner cartridges

• Telephone books, large sale catalogs, and books

• Household goods and clothes and shoes (gently used, please)

• Old prescription medications and over-the-counter medications (no

needles or syringes) On August 17, we will also host a Shred It! Day at the Walthourville City Hall site. This is a safe and secure way to dispose of any legal, medical, or financial files you no longer need. The Shred event will be available from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. (please note that you must be in line by 12:45 p.m.).

We want to extend a special invitation to the viewing of an award-winning documentary film on the hidden crisis of microplastics in conjunction with our Recycle It! Fair & Shred event. Introduced by actor and environmentalist Ted Danson, “We’re All Plastic People Now” investigates the hidden story of plastic and its effects on human health. In an era of throw-away ease, convenience has cost us our well-being. “We’re All Plastic People Now” asks the question, how much evidence do we need before we decide to take action? Showing on Saturday, August 17, at the Liberty County Complex Banquet Room from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. Refreshments will be served.

We hope you plan to join us on Saturday, August 24, to conduct the Great Georgia Pollinator Census from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at the KLB office in Midway. Please RSVP at https://bit.ly/pollencensus to ensure we have enough supplies and food.

The Great Southeast Pollinator Census is a citizen science project created by the University of Georgia. This project is designed for everyone to participate and make a difference in pollinator conservation! On August 23 and August 24, anyone can participate by choosing a favorite pollinator plant for counting. This can be any blooming plant that shows insect activity. Count and categorize the insects that land on your plant. Count an insect each time it lands on your plant. Count for 15 minutes.

The insect categories are: o Bumble bees o Honey bees o Small bees o Carpenter bees o Wasps o Flies o Butterflies/moths o Other insects Upload your counts on the website (https:// GSePC.org). The portal to upload counts will open on August 23. You must provide your count to Keep Liberty Beautiful or use the online form because the University of Georgia does not accept paper forms. You can post photos of your counters having fun, your gardens, or anything you think would interest the group on the Southeast Pollinator Census and Keep Liberty Beautiful Facebook page. If you have questions, you can contact Becky Griffin, the University of Georgia project coordinator, who is available by email at beckygri@uga.edu.

We are still in need of boat captains! If you have a boat and a big heart and want to volunteer, KLB will pay the launch fees for your boat at Halfmoon Marina. We also offer all the cleanup supplies, food, drinks, and T-shirts. If you’re interested in participating or want more information, don’t hesitate to contact KLB at (912) 880-4888. You can also sign up using the link on the form: https://shorturl. at/HmEjl.

So, the time is now to Recycle! We hope to see you at one of our Recycle It! Fairs. To learn more about Keep Liberty Beautiful’s upcoming events, call (912) 880-4888, email klcb@libertycountyga. com, or visit our website at www.keeplibertybeautiful. org.
