Parks are not just open spaces but the heart of our community life. As I read in Logan Voss’ article “The Importance of Keeping Parks Clean for Future Visitors,’” parks are essential to our communities and serve many vital purposes. We must keep parks as clean as possible because we utilize parks for various reasons. The article highlighted the importance of maintaining clean parks for future visitors.

Parks contribute to improved air and water quality and are essential habitats for wildlife.

These green spaces are also attractive to nearby residents, and they can encourage new residents or even tourists to come to your neighborhood.

To ensure that people can continue to enjoy parks, we must ensure they remain accessible and inviting. Unfortunately, when people don’t properly dispose of their trash, parks can lose their appeal. Doing your part to leave parks in better condition is not just a responsibility. It’s a way to empower yourself and positively impact the environment. This is why we have cleanup events like the one we are conducting at Fort Morris to keep it attractive.

Parks are more than just green spaces. They are places where people can connect with nature, spend time with friends, and play with family. They also play a crucial role in increasing inter-community engagement, which, in turn, improves residents’ mental and physical health.

However, the actions of a few who choose to disrupt parks can negatively impact the experience of genuine visitors.

In Liberty County, we are fortunate to have many such parks.

It’s our collective responsibility to keep them clean, green, and beautiful for everyone to enjoy.

By participating in these cleanup events, we not only strengthen our sense of community but also demonstrate our shared responsibility and commitment to our environment. Your participation is not just about cleaning a park, it’s about being part of a community that cares.

Parks play a significant role in promoting safer neighborhoods. By providing children with opportunities to spend time outdoors, they help prevent antisocial behavior and crime.

Roughly 75% of people have admitted to littering at some point during the past five years. Litter attracts pests and poses a hazard for adults and children. By keeping our parks clean, we contribute to a safer and more secure community where everyone can enjoy the benefits of these green spaces. Participating in cleanup events promotes a safer and more secure community.

Additionally, parks that aren’t well-maintained can pose choking hazards, such as small playground parts. People should feel safe from accidental injury or crime when using community facilities.

Beautiful parks can increase municipal revenue and property values.

When residents don’t do their part, more tax dollars must go toward park cleanup instead of other necessary improvements. For businesses and individuals to benefit from these green spaces, the community must recognize the importance of keeping parks clean.

Your participation in cleanup events is not just about cleaning a park, it’s about contributing to the economic well-being of our community.

Liberty County, we can continue to Keep Liberty Beautiful by joining us for scheduled cleanups like the Rivers Alive Cleanup on October 26, in every city and county area in Liberty County, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. SNF will provide lunch for all volunteers at the field next to the Riceboro City Hall.

We hope to see you this Saturday, September 28, for the Your State Parks Cleanup at Fort Morris from 9 a.m. to 12 noon.
