Our next quarterly Recycle It! Fairs are scheduled for Saturday, August 17. This is another event that helps you if you start sorting and packing items now that you want to recycle. We provide quarterly Recycle It! Fairs for collecting numerous household items that cannot be dropped off at local recycling drop-off centers.

We are proud to partner with several community partners to make these recycling and collection opportunities possible. Our partners for this event are Liberty County Road Department, Liberty County Solid Waste, local law enforcement, Fort Stewart, Savannah Shredding Company, and the cities of Midway, Hinesville, and Walthourville.

This quarter’s fairs will be open on Saturday, August 17, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at two convenient locations: Liberty County Community Complex 9397 East Oglethorpe in Midway Walthourville City Hall 222 Busbee Drive in Walthourville Here are the items we recycle at the fairs:

• Electronics and electronic accessories

• Cell phones and accessories

• CFLs and fluorescent light bulbs

• Used motor oil and antifreeze

• Car batteries.

• Household batteries

• Printer ink and toner cartridges

• Telephone books, large sale catalogs, and books

• Household goods and clothes and shoes (gently used, please)

• Old prescription medications and over-thecounter medications (no

needles or syringes) Remember, your participation in the Recycle It! Fairs is not just about recycling. By donating your shoes and clothes, you’re also helping local missions in Liberty County. Your contribution matters, and you can bring your donations to one of the Recycle It! Fairs locations.

On August 17, we will also host a Shred It! Day at the Walthourville City Hall site. This is a safe and secure way to dispose of any legal, medical, or financial files you no longer need. The Shred event will be available from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. (please note that you must be in line by 12:45 p.m.).

KLB is also sponsoring the August Chamber Progress Through People Luncheon on Thursday, August 15, at 12 noon at the Performing Arts Center on East Oglethorpe Highway. Registration for this luncheon is arranged through the Liberty County Chamber of Commerce by August 12, at operations@libertycounty.org or (912) 368-4445.

We hope you plan to join us on Saturday, August 24, to conduct the Great Georgia Pollinator Census from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at the KLB office in Midway. Please RSVP at https://bit.ly/pollencensus to ensure we have enough supplies and food.

The Great Southeast Pollinator Census is a citizen science project created by the University of Georgia. This project is designed for everyone to participate and make a difference in pollinator conservation on August 23 and August 24. Anyone can participate by choosing a favorite pollinator plant for counting. his can be any blooming plant that shows insect activity. Count and categorize the insects that land on your plant. Count an insect each time it lands on your plant. Count for 15 minutes.

The insect categories are:

• Bumble bees

• Honey bees

• Small bees

• Carpenter bees

• Wasps

• Flies

• Butterflies/moths

• Other insects Upload your counts on the website (https:// GSePC.org). The portal to upload counts will open on August 23. You must provide your count to Keep Liberty Beautiful or use the online form because paper forms are not being accepted by the University of Georgia. You can post photos of your counters having fun, photos of your gardens, or anything you think would be of interest to the group on the Southeast Pollinator Census Facebook page and Keep Liberty Beautiful Facebook page. If you have questions, you can contact Becky Griffin, the University of Georgia project coordinator, who is available by email at beckygri@uga.edu.

So, start getting ready for the Recycle It! Fairs, and you will be ahead of the game by August 17. To find out more about Keep Liberty Beautiful’s upcoming events, call (912) 880-4888, email klcb@libertycountyga. com, or visit our website at www.keeplibertybeautiful. org.
