The Earth cannot take care of itself, so we must be here for it. We need to be here for our planet so it will be here for us! There is also a connection between personal well-being and environmental stewardship. Health problems can affect how you function. When you make your physical body and mental health a priority, you can contribute to making the Earth a better place.

The Liberty County Earth Day celebration is a chance for our community to come together and make a difference. Join us on Saturday, April 18, to show your support and be part of this meaningful event. How do we celebrate and learn at the same time? Join us for Liberty County Earth Day!

This free, family-friendly event offers fun activities, games, creative crafts, and entertainment that also teach important environmental lessons, often without realizing it.

This event has taken months of planning and coordination with many community partners. I think it will be something you do not want to miss, no matter what your age is.

Earth Day is truly for our community and by our community. Over 40 organizations, businesses, agencies, and churches partner with Keep Liberty Beautiful, showing how collective effort makes a difference. “We could not do this event without that kind of commitment,” said Amanda Jeffers, volunteer coordinator with Keep Liberty Beautiful.

“To all of those volunteers and partners, thank you so much.”

Attendees will have the opportunity to explore key topics, including water conservation, stormwater pollution, litter prevention, recycling, waste reduction, and community improvement. Dr. Bell explains that hands-on experiences make all the difference: “When you learn about the problems that litter and stormwater create by actually journeying through a ‘storm drain,’ that knowledge becomes fun. Even fishing for healthy, not polluted, fish makes education more interesting!” This lively approach aims to make learning enjoyable for everyone.

Families can enjoy interactive activities like an Earth-Friendly Obstacle Course featuring creative elements such as recycling bins, tires, and a “trap river.” There also will be engaging exhibits, including backyard vegetable garden ideas, fairy gardens, and herb gardens. Free trees will be available (with advance reservation), along with displays on composting and waste-free lunches.

Keep Liberty Beautiful is excited to partner with Infinity Garden Consulting to provide an Earth Day Mobile Garden Workshop. The workshop will cost $10 to register and will include: a 5-gallon bucket, a wheeled trolley, plants/seeds, a tomato stand (if required), a water can, plant food, and care instructions. Each participant will receive a raffle ticket for Lowe’s gift cards.

We also will have two to three food trucks available for your enjoyment while you are out experiencing the activities or dancing in the Animal Boogie Parade.

There are so many cute and entertaining components of this event. I wish I could share them all here, but you will just have to join us and see for yourself! Taking care of the Earth should be a joyous task for all of us, it is our home, after all, and we are its stewards.

Help us make the 20th Annual Earth Day Celebration a success by volunteering. Your support will be appreciated and will make a real impact on our community.

Join the Greatest American Cleanup across the county, with events in the cities of Flemington and Riceboro, on May 2. The city of Midway, cleanup is on April 25. The cleanups are from 9 a.m. to 12 noon, and will meet at each city hall. Each cleanup actively contributes to a cleaner, healthier environment and demonstrates community pride.

Your involvement helps build pride in our community and sends a clear message that littering is unacceptable in Liberty County. Join us and make a real difference!
