Letter to the editor: VA needs transparency, accountability
letter to editor new

Editor’s note: This letter was written in response to Ted Harris’ letter in the August 15 edition of the Courier.

Brother-In-Arms Ted, You really piqued my curiosity with your latest letter, so much so that I had to read your reference Project, 2025 Chapter 20.

What I noticed first was the author, a former VA chief of staff. One would think being in that position he would probably have seen it all – both good and bad.

Reading the chapter overview these words jumped out at me, “it remains plagued by bureaucracy, inefficiency, and a “culture of complacency.” Tucker outlines a plan to reform the VA, emphasizing accountability, efficiency, expanded access to private healthcare through community care.”

This community has just experienced all three of those with the renaming of the Hinesville VA clinic by spending $87,399.55 illegally modifying the exterior signage, now having to change it again.

Fortunately, the GAO has just opened an investigation into these bureaucrat misdeeds. Hopefully Congressional investigations will follow.

Reading the entire chapter, I came away with a different meaning than what you expressed.

Finally, your “new hope,” Command Sergeant Major Tim Walz, is a liar, liar pants on fire, wolf in sheep’s clothing. He is actually a retired master sergeant and receiving retirement as such.

This is the type of decision maker who gets good people wounded or killed in combat…if they go.

Do hope you reconsider.
