Letter to the editor: Community comes together for sickle cell awareness
letter to editor new

Dear Editor,

On behalf of Tapestry Connections, Inc., I am pleased to share how our organization concluded Sickle Cell Awareness Month. In partnership with Top Ladies of Distinction, Inc. Bryan-Liberty Counties Chapter, we hosted the inaugural Run Walk Roll 5K for Sickle Cell Disease on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at James A. Brown Park in Hinesville. More than 100 people registered for the event.

We were honored to welcome participants, volunteers, sponsors, and community partners who joined us in raising awareness and affirming a vital message to individuals living with sickle cell disease and their families: they are not alone.

Tapestry Connections, Inc. extends its sincere appreciation to our Presenting Sponsor, Pfizer Rare Disease; our Premier Sponsors, the City of Riceboro and the Liberty County High School Alumni Association Class of 1953-1972; and our Community and In-Kind Sponsors, Celebritees, Food Lion Store No. 2692, Kroger Store No. 487, and the Liberty County Chamber of Commerce.

We are equally grateful to Charlestowne Road Race Services, Diversity Health Center, Keepsakes Klicks Photo Booths, LLC, Liberty County Boys & Girls Club, Liberty County Recreation Department, Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church of Hinesville, NCNW Coastal Georgia Area Section, Play Datez Child Development Center, Positive Change Fitness LLC, Top Teens of America Bryan-Liberty Counties Chapter, The Beta Gamma Gamma Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., and We Run the 912 for their valued support. We also thank Sketchy Snaps by Jordan Frazier for documenting the day through photography.

To everyone who registered, volunteered, donated, shared information about the event, or offered encouragement from the sidelines, please accept our heartfelt thanks. Your support made our first 5K possible and reflected the generosity and strength of our community.

We invite Coastal Courier readers to continue this momentum by learning more about sickle cell disease, sharing accurate information, supporting affected families, and participating in future awareness events. Tapestry Connections, Inc. remains committed to raising awareness, strengthening community connections, and supporting those affected by sickle cell disease.
