Dear Editor,
The upcoming elections in November will be one of the most consequential elections of our generation, based on results in New York City and across the country.
This election thus becomes about so much more than one’s political party, about so much more than which candidate is a better speaker.
This election is about America and which path this great country will travel, in the immediate and long term future.
As a political science major, I have studied, in depth, the various models of government. Democracy far exceeds the tenets of any other form of government, with respect to the freedoms and opportunities enjoyed by its citizens. America is by far the greatest democracy (re: democratic republic) the world has ever seen … but that can change.
According to Scottish Professor Alexander Tyler, of the University of Edinburgh’s History Department, “a democracy will continue to exist until the time that voters discover they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that point on, the majority will always vote for the candidate(s) who promises the most benefits (free stuff) from the public coffers, with the result being that every democracy will finally collapse, due to loose fiscal policy- which is always followed by a dictatorship.”
To continue, “the average age of the world’s greatest civilizations, from the beginning of history, has been around 200 years. During those 200 years, these nations have always progressed through the following stages:
- from bondage to spiritual faith
- from spiritual faith to great courage
- from courage to liberty
- from liberty to complacency
- from complacency to apathy
- from apathy to dependence
- from dependence back into bondage” What point do you believe we are at in the United States? I believe we are somewhere between complacency to apathy in Professor Tyler’s model, with more than 40% of this nation’s population already having reached the “government dependency “ stage.
This push toward Socialism, with all of the “free stuff” will further this dependency- with the socialization of healthcare, medicine, housing and undoubtedly, reparations (another gift from the public coffers).
The Socialists will call for the legalization of all of America’s illegal immigrants while opening the borders to more undocumented immigration — which furthers the cycle of dependency and increases the number of voters calling for more gifts from the government.
The critical threshold is 50%. This call for Socialism, by smooth-talking candidates, will certainly push this country over the threshold and will lead to our own destruction.
Are you willing to stake your children’s and grandchildren’s future on this chance?
In the upcoming elections, stand with the candidate, regardless of party, willing to fight back against this push to Socialism.
Our future depends on it.
