Dear Editor,

I am writing to recognize and celebrate four outstanding Liberty County graduating seniors who have been selected as the 2026 recipients of the Pete D. Stevens Memorial Scholarship through Tapestry Connections Inc.

This year’s recipients are Destiny Deigh and Aku Komlan of Bradwell Institute, and Aeriela Jemison and Daizey Keller of Liberty County High School. Each student received a one-time $1,000 scholarship to support the next step in their education.

Destiny Deigh plans to attend Clark Atlanta University, and Aku Komlan plans to attend the Georgia Institute of Technology. Aeriela Jemison plans to attend Georgia State University, while Daizey Keller, salutatorian of the Liberty County High School Class of 2026, plans to attend Georgia Southern University.

The scholarship honors the legacy of Pete D. Stevens of Riceboro, who is remembered as an entrepreneur, minister, community advocate and lifelong sickle cell warrior. Established by his sister, Dr. Deloris Stevens Mitchell, the scholarship recognizes students who reflect perseverance, service, and educational achievement.

As a community, we should be proud of these students and encouraged by the commitment of local organizations that invest in young people. Scholarships like this remind us that education, service and compassion continue to strengthen Liberty County.

Tapestry Connections will continue awarding the scholarship annually, with the next application cycle opening in spring 2027 for eligible graduating seniors from Bradwell Institute and Liberty County High School.
