Editor, The ninth annual Scholarship Golf Tournament on April 13 was the culmination of several events hosted this year by the Liberty County Dr. M.L. King Jr. Observance Association.
Our tournaments have been highly successful over the years, and we attribute this success to three key factors. First, we have a dedicated golf committee that serves on a volunteer basis; second, our corporate sponsors; and third, players who make for an exciting day of fellowship and golf.
This year’s golf tournament was well-attended and successful. I am extremely grateful and want to thank all of our sponsors, players and volunteers because without their support, none of this would be possible. We were blessed with beautiful weather and able to raise funds to offer several scholarships this year to deserving seniors graduating from our local high schools.
We were elated to have 21 teams supporting and 17 teams playing in the tournament. Before the first tee-off, Liberty County Commission Chairman Donald Lovette, who also is the MLKOA’s first vice president, welcomed and thanked everyone for supporting the event. After enjoying fellowship and lunch, the tournament was on. Congratulations to the winners! Thank you, Coastal Courier, for posting them in the paper.
I extend special thanks to our gold corporate sponsors: Jones, Osteen and Jones and KC Brothers Construction; our corporate sponsors: CH2M Hill, Fussell Bonding, Hinesville Ford and Brown’s Tax and Accounting; our team sponsors: Osteen and Osteen and Advent Dental; and our hole sponsors: Arrowood Engineering, P.C. Simonton and Associates, Pioneer Financial, BoBo’s Seafood II, Liberty County Coroner Reginald Pierce, Liberty County Tax Commissioner Virgil Jones, Quality Cleaners, Realty Executives, Golden Hibachi, The Heritage Bank, Georgia Power, Fairfield Inn, Lynette’s Professional Cleaning Service and Strategic Business Solutions.
Door prizes were donated by Cherokee Rose Country Club, Pioneer Financial Services, LaQuinta Inn, Arby’s, Fort Stewart’s FMWR, VIP Office Furniture and Supply, and Dixon Golf Regional Manager Jason Workman.
I want to sincerely thank our volunteers: MLKOA President the Rev. Alvin Jackson, Chairman Lovette, Joe Ford, Daisy Jones, Victoria Allen, Laucenia Frasier and students Octavien Gadson and Jeremiah Melton.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to the 2013 Liberty County Dr. M.L. King Jr. Observance Association events. We always are seeking corporate sponsors, and we welcome inquiries regarding our events and sponsorship opportunities. Call 876-3164 or email libertycountymlkoa@gmail.com.
