Pastor is much more than just a preacher

Editor, The key word in Edith Anderson’s “In the pulpit” column on July 17 is “pastor.” There are preachers and there are pastors. Rick Brown, who Edith wrote about, is a pastor.
I visited my elderly uncle, a retired pastor, at Baxley Hospital several times in the past two years. Rick Brown was there each time, even though he was not my uncle’s pastor.
When our beloved pastor of 25 years, Roger Wilkins, died, Rick Brown was sent to preach the next Sunday. Mr. Brown told me that was one of the hardest things he had ever done.
I am honored to know Rick Brown. The people of Baxley and First Baptist Church Hinesville are blessed to have him. The world would be a better place if we had more pastors like Rick Brown.
