Hinesville’s 14U Gators girls soccer team spent May 22 in Warner Robins battling for the crown in the Georgia Parks and Recreation Department District playoffs. The girls fought their way through the winners’ bracket and ended up as the district champions.

Coached by Karen Higgason and assisted by Brandon Standard, the Gators won two games and tied one to go into the finals.

They beat Robins Crew 1-0 and the Columbus Girls Inc. 2-1, which set up game three against a familiar opponent, the Savannah Celtic Cobras.

The two squared off in the past during regular-season play. Both times they played, the Cobras beat the Gators. This time, the Gators played without midfielder Nakia Hunter, who was injured in the second game in an on-field collision.
